WhatsApp announced on Thursday (15) that it is testing a new feature for its web version. The new feature promises users the possibility of accessing the application on up to four computers, regardless of mobile internet access. The smartphone, however, will continue to be the main device for the account.
According to the newspaper O Globo, the update will make WhatsApp more similar to its competitor Telegram. The cell phone will remain iceland mobile database main device, but to use WhatsApp Web, for example, it will no longer be necessary for the smartphone to be connected to the internet or have sufficient charge.
The multiplatform feature began to be tested on Wednesday (14) with a small group of users of the beta version of WhatsApp. The feature promises access to the application on up to four computers and, on each one, it will work more independently.
However, there is still no forecast for when the feature will be released to all WhatsApp users. Furthermore, the tool will certainly undergo changes until the service demonstrates that it works more appropriately.
WhatsApp Web
With the new WhatsApp Web update, your computer will no longer be just a mirror. The feature will allow you to access the app independently of your mobile internet connection.
Understand how it will work
Currently, WhatsApp Web messages only function as a type of interface. The cell phone is responsible for sending and receiving messages, and the computer acts as a mirror. When the cell phone is disconnected from the internet or runs out of battery, it is no longer possible to use the service on the PC.
The new tests indicate that when connecting the messaging app account to another device, such as WhatsApp Web on a computer, the need to read a QR Code from the phone remains.
The big news is that messages can be synchronized between the cell phone and previously connected computers, activating the multiplatform function directly on secondary devices. This way, users will be able to access WhatsApp Web even when the phone is inactive.
Although it may seem simplistic and insecure, to link WhatsApp Web or Desktop to the application account, you will be asked for biometric authentication (with facial recognition or fingerprint) on your smartphone. This will prevent unwanted access, such as that which occurs in cloning or account theft.
When connecting, the WhatsApp platform will display a list of all devices registered to the account. This way, the user can remotely disable the login if they suspect any unauthorized access.
