If you think Google is the next Big Brother and Facebook is an unbeatable and essential social network, you're going to have to face the facts: you're at least as old as I am.

To begin, you need a brief update on the economic climate of the GAFAM (Big Four) companies. While the 3,700 layoffs that followed Elon Musk's arrival at Twitter caused a stir, it's practically a shambles between shandong mobile number database and Silicon Valley. Microsoft has announced 10,000 job cuts within three months, Facebook is planning 11,000, and Google is preparing for 12,000. The gold medal remains in the hands of Amazon, which has decided to lay off 18,000 employees. It's as if the sky is falling on tech!

Next, tell yourself that these prospects have nothing to do with Covid or the war in Ukraine. Simply put, the world has changed, and those in their fifties and forties are already overwhelmed. This devil who is (already) pushing you towards the exit has a name, "Generation Z," and displays a face you know very well: that of your children. You find it hard to believe when you see them glued to their smartphones all day, but these slightly annoying teenagers and young adults born between 1995 and 2010 are changing the world. By 2030, they will represent a third of the working population and will be the main driver of consumer spending!

The decline of the giants, the triumph of TikTok
When you search the Internet, you don't beat around the bush; you use Google. Maybe you're an activist and prefer Brave or Qwant, but the numbers don't lie: Google accounts for 92% of the global market share... at least for now. Because the results of the GenZ Pulse barometer initiated by the Heroiks group show a shift in usage: 85% of 16-24 year-olds use social media as search engines, and 1 in 2 do so very regularly. Thus, 60% of them believe that social media will one day replace search engines!

Be careful, if you think you're modern because you spend more time on Facebook than on Google, you're wrong... 38% of 16-24 year olds consider the all-blue social network to be a brand in decline (and this figure rises to 45% among 25-34 year olds, which is to say if you're a has-been ).

So, which platform is sweeping the board on the backs of all these GAFAMs? Two syllables: TikTok. This Chinese app, launched in 2016, quickly established itself as the go-to for Generation Z. Not only is it among the top three networks used daily by 16-24 year-olds, but 55% of them consider it to be the platform with the most promise and use it constantly, whenever they have a few free minutes. It's no wonder its founder (who's not yet 40) is worth an estimated $55 billion.
